Description
MSU Cycling team is a nationally competitive varsity cycling program focused on National Competition and creating well-educated, balanced, and responsible student-athletes.
MSU Cycling competes in the South-Central Collegiate Cycling
Conference as a varsity program from the USA Cycling Federation. The team competes in 3 out of 5 disciplines in collegiate national championships, including Road, Mountain Biking, and BMX.
Why are donations necessary?
Donations are necessary to enhance the cycling community of Wichita Falls, and bringing student-athletes to the university that otherwise would not attend, impacts the image of the University on a National level.
The current team consists of 14 cyclists total, 3 women and 11 men of which only 8 are scholarship athletes. Our goal is to raise funds to increase the number of team members to 20 athletes (10 women, 10 men) divided in all 3 disciplines. To grow our team, scholarships of a minimum of $4,000 a year for each student are necessary to cover part of their tuition.
Other team expenses per Spring and Fall semester seasons will include traveling 4-5 conference racers per semester and 1-2 National Championships per semester in the different cycling disciplines. Each weekend of conference races with 12 athletes costs around $2,000 covering traveling, lodging, meals, and entry fees. For National Championships, around $6,500 by adding airfare tickets. Yearly expenses for the team are bike equipment and maintenance is around $5,700 and cycling kits and uniforms for 14 athletes in 3 disciplines cost $10,000.
