Description

My name is Ranette Halverson and MSU has been a significant part of my life since 1973 when I enrolled as a freshman mathematics major.  I received several accolades over the years but the one received upon my retirement was the most touching to me above all others – the establishment of the Halverson Excellence Fund.

The Halverson Excellence Fund was established to award scholarships to computer science majors. Having been the recipient of scholarships during my academic career I understand how important, and sometimes necessary, scholarships are for many of our students. With rising costs and inflation, scholarships are more important than ever.

Everyone has been amazed at the amount raised in the first three years, but there's still more we can do!  Our goal is to make the fund an endowment, meaning to have enough principal to provide scholarships solely from interest. Due to the generosity of so many alumni and friends, we are almost there, but we still need your help.

I invite you to play a part in making an impact today by making a gift to the Halverson Excellence Fund. All gifts – regardless of the amount – make a significant impact.

Honoring the memory of Randall Hudson

In honor of my father, Randall Hudson, I hope you will join me in establishing an endowment for the Halverson Excellence Fund. In 1954 after I was born, my father didn’t return to MSU but decided he needed to work full-time for the family. Perhaps this is the reason he was determined his 3 children would achieve college degrees. I am proud to say that I received my BS and MS in Mathematics and then completed my Ph.D. in Computer Science at UNT, Denton.

After my father passed on May 7, 2023, I decided the best way to honor his memory would be to set future students up for success through scholarships. I hope you will join me in creating a lasting legacy for current and future MSU students and show your support as I remember my father showed me throughout my academic career.
